1. Corporal punishment was banned at schools.

   체벌은 학교에서 금지 되었다.

2. Cell phone use while driving is banned.

  운전 중 휴대전화 사용은 금지된다.

1. Many students followed suit.

   많은 학생들이 동참했다.

2. Many teenagers followed suit and voted in the election.

   많은 십대가 선거에 투표에 동참했다.

1. Discipline is given a lot of weight in Korean education.

   Corporal punishment used to be a common thing in Korea schools.

   규율은 한국 교육에서 큰 비중을 주고 있다.

   체벌은 한국 학교에서 일반적인 것이었다.

2. One way of punishment was caning.

   Teachers hit students on their bottoms or palms with a stick.

   벌 중에 하나는 몽둥이 질이었다.

   선생님은 학생의 엉덩이나 손바박을 회초리로 때렸다.

3. Sometimes, physical punishment would go to extremes and cause controversy.

   In most cases though, it was generally accepted.

   가끔 체벌이 극단적으로 치닫고 논란을 야기했다.

   대부분의 경우 일반적으로 허용 되었다.

4. However, the tide started to change regarding corporal punishment.

   Many people argued that students' rights should be respected more.

   그러나 체벌에 관한 것이 바뀌기 시작했다.

   많은 사람들이 학생의 권리가 조금 더 존중 받아야 한다고 논하였다.

5. Finally, some local districts banned physical punishment at schools.

   Other districts followed suit.

   결국 어떤 지역은 체벌을 학교에서 금지했다.

   다른 지역도 동참했다.

6. Now, most schools in Korea have outlawed physical punishment.

   They make use of other means of discipline.

   현재 대부분의 한국 학교는 체벌을 불법으로 하고 있다.

   그들은 다른 훈육 수단을 사용한다.
